On 17-19 October, Angela Frigo, Secretary General of the European Food Banks Federation, visited Macedonia in order to better understand the activity of our project member, the Food for All - Food Bank Macedonia, and also to meet some charitable organizations and representatives of the government.
The fight against food waste and the daily activity of the Food Bank Macedonia are key to fight food waste and to foster solidarity and humanity in reducing social inequalities in this country. Mr Goran Misovski, Vice-President of the Parliament, confirmed that the themes of food poverty and food waste are high in the political agenda of the country, which is going through an intense period, and are supported by the whole parliamentary assembly.
Angela Frigo together with representatives of the “WSS Effect” team, the association Food for All – Food Bank Macedonia, and the Organization of Women from Strumica, also met Mr Zoran Zaev, Prime Minister of FYROM-Macedonia. The Prime Minister expressed his support on behalf of the Government to the activity of the Food Bank, which is a strong message of solidarity, and the possibility to improve the national legal framework in order to enhance the impact of the Food Bank in the country. He also affirmed that his Government is already making great efforts in finding models for providing more financial support to initiatives carried out by civil society, as the Food Bank, which give a serious contribution to the improvement of the living conditions of a large number of citizens.
