General Mills Foundation supports FEBA and its membership with a US$ 400.000 grant


The European Food Banks Federation (FEBA) has received a Grant from the General Mills Foundation totalling $ 400.000 aimed at helping FEBA and its membership to reduce food waste and alleviate hunger throughout Europe. This latest grant follows a US$265,000 grant in 2018, bringing General Mills Foundation’s total investment in FEBA to date to US$665,000.

The amount of edible food that goes to waste in Europe has reached appalling proportions. At the same time, 7.5% of the population is severely materially deprived. This initiative, aligned with the vision and strategic priorities of the General Mills Foundation, also seeks to support FEBA and its membership achieving its everyday mission: to recover surplus food and feed people in need.

The generous grant allocated to the European Food Banks Federation will be used to support the general activity of the organization for the benefit of the whole network and to help specific members.

The bigger portion of the current year funding will be allocated to support the operations of some members, in particular: the Fédération Française des Banques Alimentaires in France, Tafel Deutschland e.V. in Germany, the Greek Food Bank in Greece, the Federación Española de Bancos de Alimentos in Spain and FareShare in the UK.

These funds will be monitored by FEBA throughout the program and a final report will be produced.

Our partnership with FEBA directly reflects our priorities of eliminating hunger within communities, while ensuring that no good food goes to waste”, said Nicola Dixon, associate director of General Mills Foundation. “By providing financial grants to support food bank operations as well as donating General Mills food– such as Yoplait yogurt or Nature Valley snack bars – we aim to give FEBA member food banks some of the resources they need to carry out their vital missions”, Dixon said.
